YAKERS find their origin in the hills of the Himalayas. Originally made for human consumption, they are still widely eaten by the Himalayan people and their dogs.
They are made from a mix of skimmed Yak and Cow milk. A very small amount of lime juice and salt is added to coagulate (harden) the milk, which is then compressed into blocks and smoke dried for 28 days to give the chews their unique flavour.

The hard texture means dogs need to soften and work at the treat before they’re rewarded with small pieces to chew off. So you get to keep them happily entertained for a lot, lot longer.
You can also put the small end pieces in the microwave for 30 to 60 seconds until they puff up. Allow to cool and then give back to your dog
to finish the treat.

The milk gets delivered from Yak farms, local dairies and individual herders in the Himalayas.
The milk is turned into cheese
The cream is removed, making them low in fat. A very small amount of lime juice and salt is used to coagulate (harden) the milk.
The cheese is then compressed
The coagulated solids are compressed in muslin cloth until most of the moisture has been removed.
The formed blocks are rested
Formed blocks are left to rest for a few days until they are ready to be cut.
Then cut and smoke dried
The chews are smoke dried for 28 days while being hung or on a wire grid in smoking sheds.

Please supervise your pet when feeding YAKERS and always ensure fresh drinking water is available. Once your dog has enjoyed the YAKERS, take the remaining small end piece and place it in a microwave on high for 30 to 60 seconds until it puffs up. Allow to cool, then give it back to your dog to finish the treat! YAKERS are suitable for dogs over 4 months of age.
